LEAGUE FORMAT

Thursday Night Upper Intermediate

This Upper Intermediate division plays Thursday evenings.

• Game Times: 6:10 PM, 7:00 PM or 7:50 PM
• Season: 8 weeks
• Match Window: 50 minutes
• Warm-Up & Grace Period: first 10 minutes of the scheduled match window
• Format: Coed — no required gender ratio

Teams must have at least 4 players registered to that team by the end of the 10-minute warm-up and grace period to avoid a possible forfeit. Eligible Official Subs count toward this minimum.

Upper Intermediate is designed for experienced teams that run recognizable offensive and defensive systems and can maintain control as the speed and pressure of the match increase.

Players should be comfortable with faster serves, stronger attacks, organized team systems and more demanding rallies.

TEAM ROSTERS

Registration & Roster Requirements

Teams must have a minimum of 6 fully registered players and may carry a maximum of 8 registered players to be placed on the schedule.

Players who are part of the team from the beginning of the season must complete registration by the end of Week 2.

If fewer than six players are fully registered after the Week 2 deadline, the captain or primary team registrant will be invoiced at the applicable individual registration rate for each position needed to reach six players.

Paying for an unfilled position does not create a registered player or allow an unregistered player to participate.

Roster changes are permitted only through the end of Week 4. Any player added during Weeks 3 or 4 must register before taking the court. After Week 4, rosters are locked except for an approved qualifying medical exception.

 

GAME-NIGHT ROSTERS

Pick-Up Players & Official Subs

Pick-up players are temporary regular-season players used when rostered players are unavailable. A team using pick-up players must still have at least 4 players registered to that team present. Pick-up players must be appropriate for Upper Intermediate and are not playoff eligible.

Official Subs are registered, team-specific players. An Official Sub may be registered to only one team and may play no more than 5 total games for that team, including playoffs. Official Subs must be entered by the TVL director and remain subject to the Week 4 roster lock.

Playoffs: only regular registered roster members and properly registered Official Subs within their five-game limit may participate.

 

TEAM REFFING

Reffing Assignments

TVL adult leagues are self-reffing unless a program states otherwise. Teams should expect approximately 3–4 reffing assignments during the season.

Captains and players are responsible for reviewing the schedule and making sure assigned duties are covered. Reffing-change requests should be submitted at least 72 hours in advance and cannot be guaranteed.

If a team misses 2 or more reffing assignments, its highest-scoring regular-season win will be converted to a forfeit.
