Adult league registrations are non-refundable.

Before teams are created and schedules are finalized, TVL may consider a future site credit in limited circumstances at league management's discretion.

Once teams have been created and the season schedule has been completed, no refunds or credits will be issued for adult league registrations.

Players and teams are responsible for reviewing the league description, tentative start date, scheduled playing night, division level, and other league requirements before registering.

Youth registrations may receive a refund when the withdrawal request is made before registration closes.

After registration closes, refunds will generally only be considered when a player is unable to participate for a legitimate medical reason supported by appropriate medical documentation.

Once teams have been created and the season schedule has been completed, refunds will no longer be issued.

When a documented medical circumstance prevents a child from participating after teams and schedules have been created, TVL may issue a future program credit at league management's discretion.

Medical documentation may be required before a refund or credit is approved.

Some TVL programs require a minimum number of players or teams in order to operate properly.

For that reason, registration deadlines or anticipated start dates may occasionally be extended.

When this occurs, TVL communicates extensions through league emails and updates the program accordingly. League start dates may also be identified as tentative during registration when enrollment requirements have not yet been met.

An extension of registration or movement of a tentative start date does not, by itself, qualify a registration for a refund or credit.

Requests based solely on the season "taking too long to start" will not qualify when the program was clearly listed with a tentative start date and participants were kept informed of registration or scheduling extensions.

We understand that schedules matter, and we will always communicate changes as clearly as possible.

We also ask players and parents to read those communications and understand the program they are registering for before making the commitment.

All rostered players must register online within the applicable registration deadline.

Teams must meet the minimum and maximum roster requirements listed for their specific league or program in order to be placed on the schedule.

If your team is short players before registration closes, contact TVL. When available, we are happy to help connect teams with free agents, but we will not add players to an existing team without that team's approval.

Players who do not have a team should register as an Individual/Free Agent.

Please do not add yourself to an existing team's roster unless that team has invited you to join.

TVL may help place individual players when openings are available or create a free-agent team when enough individual players register.

We want people to have a place to play. We also respect that existing teams have the right to manage their own rosters.

Players are responsible for making sure they meet the age, division, and other eligibility requirements listed for the program before registering.

Lower Intermediate and Upper Intermediate teams are expected to review the TVL division evaluation guidelines and register at the level that most accurately reflects the abilities of the players on their roster.

These evaluations are not intended to judge a team. They exist to help prevent major skill mismatches, protect player safety, and create better competition throughout the league.

Register where your team can compete — not simply where your team can collect wins.

Pick-up players are intended to help a team field a lineup when rostered players are unavailable.

A team using pick-up players must still have at least four rostered players present in order to avoid a forfeit.

Pick-up players must meet the applicable age and division requirements and satisfy any TVL participation or waiver requirements before taking the court.

Pick-up players should be appropriate for the division in which they are participating. Teams should not use pick-up players as a way to significantly increase the competitive level of the team for a particular match.

• Rally scoring is used.
• Sets are played to 25 points and must be won by two.
• Matches are best 2 out of 3 sets.
• If a deciding third set is required, it is played to 15 points and must be won by two.
• If time is running short, the referee or TVL staff may announce Golden Ball before the next serve. The next rally becomes the final scheduled rally of the set.
• If one team leads after that rally, that team wins the set even if the normal point target or win-by-two requirement has not been reached.
• If the score is tied after the Golden Ball rally, one additional sudden-death rally will be played. The winner of that rally wins the set.

• A team may use up to three contacts to return the ball.
• A block touch does not count as one of those three team contacts.
• TVL follows the current USA Volleyball domestic substitution standard of up to 15 substitutions per team, per set.
• A starting player who leaves and re-enters a set must return to the same position in the lineup. A substitute's entries must also remain in the same lineup position during that set.
• On a team's second contact, consecutive contacts by the same player during one action are permitted when the ball is next touched by a teammate.
• A ball that is caught, held, or thrown remains an illegal contact.
• A double contact remains a fault on the team's third contact, or when a second-contact double is not followed by a teammate's touch.
• Serves must be made from behind the end line.
• The ball must cross the net within the legal crossing space between the antennae.
• The serve may not be blocked.
• A player may not reach across the net to attack a ball that remains on the opponent's side.
• Players may not interfere with an opponent's legal attempt to play the ball over or under the net.
• Under TVL house rules, players may not touch the net during play.
• Players must maintain proper rotational order.

Lower Intermediate follows TVL's general playing rules with an increased expectation of ball control, court awareness, and understanding of volleyball rules.

Players should understand rotational order, court positioning, legal ball contacts, net and center-line violations, back-row positioning, and back-row attacking rules.

Setting consistency remains part of TVL's division evaluation, but a visibly imperfect set is not automatically a double-contact fault. Ball-handling calls will follow the current USA Volleyball second-contact standard listed above.

Back-row players may not illegally attack a ball above the height of the net after taking off from on or in front of the attack line.

Upper Intermediate is intended to more closely follow the full competitive standards of USA Volleyball.

Unless TVL has specifically established a house-rule exception, current USA Volleyball indoor rules will govern rotations, ball handling, attacking, blocking, substitutions, and other playing rules.

Setting quality and control may be considered when evaluating whether a team belongs in Upper Intermediate, but ball-handling calls during matches will follow the current USA Volleyball rules listed above.

The first 10 minutes of the scheduled match window serves as the grace period and warm-up period.

A team unable to field at least four rostered players by the end of that grace period may be assessed a forfeit.

Additional warm-up time will not be added because a player arrives late. A late player may warm up safely off the court while play continues.

Each team should expect approximately 3–4 reffing assignments during the season, depending on the number of teams and the final schedule.

Not every team will ref every week. When your team is assigned, however, the assignment is part of your season schedule and must be covered.

Teams are responsible for making sure enough members are available to properly cover the assignment.

Take the assignment seriously. You do not need to be a professional official, but you are expected to pay attention to the match, understand the rules being applied, and make calls fairly for both teams.

• Stay engaged in the match and pay attention to play.
• Apply TVL and applicable USAV rules consistently to both teams.
• Make calls honestly and without favoring either side.
• Do not coach, distract, or intentionally interfere with either team while officiating.
• Treat players and captains respectfully, even when there is disagreement over a call.

Players may have questions about a call, but only the team captain may formally address the referee regarding a call or rule interpretation.

A captain may respectfully ask for clarification. Repeated arguing, intimidation, abusive language, or turning a disagreement into a confrontation is not part of that conversation and may be addressed under TVL's Sportsmanship & Conduct rules.

Self-reffing means an official may not see every touch, net violation, or other infraction.

If you know you touched the net, touched the ball before it went out, or committed an obvious violation the referee could not see, own the call.

Winning a rally you know you did not earn is not the point of recreational volleyball.

Competition comes with intensity. Close games, celebrations, frustration, disagreements, and tough losses are all part of playing sports.

What is not part of TVL is turning that competition into disrespect toward another player, team, referee, spectator, or league staff member.

The following behavior is not acceptable:

• Abusive, threatening, or intimidating language or behavior.
• Harassment or degrading treatment of another person.
• Deliberately unsafe or reckless play.
• Repeated arguing with or intimidating a referee.
• Hostile conduct toward opponents, teammates, spectators, league staff, or facility staff.
• Behavior intended to disrupt a match or create an unnecessarily hostile league environment.

Not every opponent will play the game exactly the way you do, and not every match will go your way.

Respect the people sharing the court with you. Help someone up. Celebrate without tearing someone else down. Give the other team the same basic respect you expect from them.

Play hard. Be competitive. Be someone people want to share a court with.
